J:Hi Paul, good morning! Wake up you grumpy old man”- this is Jenny talking to her husband. He knows she’s joking.

P:Come on Jenny. Let me sleep a bit more. Have a heart! Today is Sunday.

J:Yeah, I know and we need to clean the basement, remember?

P:Gimme a break will you? Let me have breakfast first.

J: Of course. By the way, while you have your breakfast I’ll prepare our plain cooking for lunch today. What will we eat on this sunny Sunday?

P:It’s up to you Jenny. You’re the cook. I just eat and like.

Twenty minutes latter they are in the basement looking at that terrible mess.

P:For God’s sake! It will take us ten years to clean this up –says He

J:Well, the point is that we need another room, so it’s worth to try, don’t you think so?

P:Yeah. Let’s do it ! Count on me to help .

They start removing old and useless things throwing garbage away, and sometimes they find strange things. Paul holds a thing that looks like a human leg.

P:What the hell is this? I’ve never seen such thing before.

J:It’s only part of a dummy body. It’s used for modeling clothes

P:But where’s the rest of this darn thing? Have you seen it, by any chance?

J:I’m not sure, but I think it’s over there, behind those boxes.

Paul tries to get there but all of a sudden a lot of things fall down and spread around.

P:Goddamnit garbage! Why do you need to keep all these useless things after all?

J:You don’t know the definition for useless thing, do you?

P:Is there a definition for that? What is it?

J:It is something you keep for ten years and throw away one day before you need it.

P:Well, according to that our house will become a big garbage depot, don’t you think so?

J:On one hand you are right, but on the other hand it’s good to have a thing instead of buying it when you need, isn’t it?

P:I guess you’ re right, but  we need to select what to keep and what to throw away, ok?

J:Sure, but how to decide that? Should we play heads or tails?

Before Paul could answer they heard a loud bang in the kitchen. It was the pressure cooker exploding due to a failure in the steam valve.

J:Jesus Christ! What was that? – cried Jenny.

They ran to the kitchen to see the damages. The walls were covered with pasta and the stove was destroyed, as well as the pressure cooker.

P:There goes our lunch- said Paul with a sad expression – well, anyway we can go to McDonald’s and have a snack. The problem is the stove. We’ll need to buy another one and it’s very expensive.

J:Cool down, Paul. I am sure we have an old stove in the basement. It will do the trick until we buy a new one next month.

P:You were right about keeping old things. Let’s put all the garbage back in the basement right now!

J: Oi Paul! Acorde seu velho rabugento – esta é Jenny falando ao seu marido. Ele sabe que ela esta brincando.
P:Vamos la Jenny! Deixe-me dormir mais um pouquinho. Tenha dó. Hoje é Domingo.
J: É eu sei, e nós temos que limpar o porão, lembra?
P: Me dá um tempo tá? Deixe-me tomar café primeiro.
J: É claro. A propósito, enquanto você toma seu café vou preparar o trivial para o almoço. O que vamos comer neste domingo ensolarado?
P: Você é quem sabe, Jenny! Você é a cozinheira. Eu só como e gosto.
Vinte minutos depois eles estão no porão olhando aquela terrível bagunça.
P: Pelo amor de Deus! Vamos levar dez anos para limpar isto- diz ele.
J: Bom, a questão é que precisamos de outro cômodo. Vale a pena tentar, você não acha?
P: É. Vamos fazer! Conte comigo para ajudar.
Eles começam a remover coisas velhas e inúteis jogando lixo fora, e às vezes encontram coisas estranhas. Paul segura uma coisa que parece uma perna humana.
P: Que diabo é isso? Nunca essa coisa antes.
J: É apenas uma parte de um manequim. É usado para modelar roupas.
P: Mas onde esta o resto deste diacho de coisa? Você viu por aí por acaso?
J: Não tenho certeza. Acho que esta logo ali atrás daquelas caixas.
Paul tenta chegar lá, mas de repente um monte de coisas cai e se espalha por ali.
P: Maldito lixo! Porque precisamos conservar estas coisas inúteis afinal de contas?
J: Você não sabe a definição de coisa inútil, sabe?
P: Existe uma definição para isso? Qual é?
J: É uma coisa que você guarda por dez anos e joga fora um dia antes de precisar.
P: Bom, de acordo com isso nossa casa vai virar um enorme deposito de lixo, não acha?
J: Por um lado você tem razão, mas por outro lado é bom ter uma coisa em vez de comprar quando se precisa, não é?
P: Acho que esta certo, mas precisamos selecionar o que manter e o que jogar fora, OK?
J: Claro, mas como decidir? Vamos jogar cara ou coroa?
Antes que Paul pudesse responder eles ouviram um estouro vindo da cozinha. Foi a panela de pressão que explodiu devido a uma falha na válvula de vapor.
J: Meu Deus do céu! O que foi aquilo? – gritou Jenny
Eles correram até a cozinha para ver os danos. As paredes estavam cobertas de macarrão e o fogão estava destruído, assim como a panela de pressão.
P: La se vai nosso almoço – disse Paul com uma expressão triste- bom, de qualquer modo podemos ir ao McDonald’s comer um lanche. O problema é o fogão. Temos que comprar outro e custa muito caro.
J: Fica frio Paul. Tenho certeza que temos um fogão velho no porão. Ele vai quebrar o galho até comprarmos um novo no mês que vem.
P: Você estava certa sobre conservar coisas velhas. Vamos por todo o lixo de volta no porão agora mesmo.
